Unstoppable Domains is a San Francisco-based blockchain startup founded by Matthew Gould with a goal to bring the fight for free speech to the domain level. The team has received grants from the Zilliqa Foundation and the Ethereum Foundation to build their decentralised domain system. The team has found great success in the United States, raising a USD$4 million Series A from venture capital firm Draper Associates, in conjunction with Boost VC.
The service allows cryptocurrency holders to create human-readable addresses, to which they add their own wallet addresses. This solves a huge user-experience problem in the crypto-space and making it easier to transfer info and payments peer-to-peer. It is also not possible to take down the domain names by players that typically participate in the domain name system, hence ‘unstoppable’ domains.
The first domain extension launched by Unstoppable Domains is called .zil.
